When will the Aadhaar Card Update be required?

When the demographic details like address, Name (minor changes only), gender, date of birth, as well as mobile number and email ID needs correction, Aadhar Card Update will be required.

The biometric details also have to be updated once in 10 years. In the case of the Aadhar Card issued to children below five years, biometric updation will be required to be done when the child is five years old and once when the child is 15 years old.

Types of Update Aadhar Card Details

There are two types of Aadhar Card Update

  1. Demographic Details
  2. Biometric Details

Demographic Details

Under this type, you can change address, mobile number, email ID, Name (only minor changes allowed), date of birth, and gender.

  • As a result of marriage, there could be a change in address as well as Name. 
  • Due to personal reasons, the resident might have changed the mobile number and email ID
  • Errors in the incorporation of date of birth/age and Name during enrolment.

The above are the main reasons why the updation of demographic details in the Aadhar Card may be required.

Biometric Details

The need for updation arises in the following cases.

  • If an Aadhar card has been made when a child was less than five years, then the child has to be re-enrolled after five years, and biometric details have to be updated. Once again, when the child attains the age of 15 years updation of biometric details have to be done.
  • If the age of the resident was above 15 years, then the biometric details updation has to be done once in 10 years.
  • For residents for whom biometric updation was exempted due to an accident or some disease
  • Where the biometric capture has been falsely rejected due to the failure of authentication for an authentic resident with an Aadhar number, authentication failure at the time of enrolment could be because of the poor biometric quality. Then the resident has to opt for biometric updation.

Update Aadhaar Card Details Online

You can update the Aadhar card address online, change the Name (only minor changes), gender and date of birth.

To carry out the Aadhar card correction, you will have to follow the steps given below:

  • Visit the Aadhar Self Service Update Portal, i.e., SSUP Portal.
  • Click on the login button.
  • Enter your 12 digit Aadhar number, the Captcha and click ‘send OTP.’
  • OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered in the UIDAI database at the time of enrolment.
  • To update name, address, gender, date of birth and the language in which Aadhar Card is written, click on the ‘Update Aadhar Online’ option under Services.
  • After this, you will go to the next page, wherein you will have to click on ‘Proceed to Update Aadhar Option.’
  • Here you choose the details that need updating, and click on ‘Proceed to Update Aadhar.’
  • There is a limitation in the number of times these details can be updated.
  • At this stage, the details as existing in the Aadhar Card will appear. Enter the details that need Aadhar Update and upload the supporting documents.
  • Verify the preview of the updated details and proceed to pay the service charge of Rs. 50/- which is non-refundable.
  • Payment can be made either by debit/credit card or net banking services.

Once the payment is made, an Update Request Number, i.e., URN, will be issued that can be used to track the status of the Aadhar Card Update Online. The time taken for Aadhar Update is normally 5 to 6 days. Once the Aadhar Card Update is done, you can download the Updated Aadhar Card. You can either save the e-Aadhar Card or take a printout of the revised version.

Update Aadhaar Card Details Offline

If you are not comfortable with Adhar Card Update Online, you can visit any Aadhar Seva Kendra. You can update the address, Name, date of birth/age, gender, mobile number and Email ID.

  • You can either download the Aadhar Correction Form from the UIDAI official website, i.e., uidai.gov.in or can simply get the form from the Aadhar Seva Kendra and fill up the details.

It is convenient if you can download the form from the UIDAI official website as you can submit the already completed form at the Aadhar Seva Kendra.

  • Submit self-attested supporting documents to authenticate the updation request,
  • Every time an updation is done, you will have to pay an Aadhar Update fee at the enrolment centre.
  • Even your biometric data and image also can be updated at the enrolment centre.
  • Several banks also have been designated to carry out the Aadhar Update.
  • The updation fee will be Rs. 50/- every instance.

What Details can be Changed in the Aadhaar Card Online/offline?

Demographic details like Name (only minor changes), Address, Date of Birth/Age, Gender, and Email ID can be updated online.

A major name change and mobile number change can be done only offline by visiting the Permanent Enrolment Centres. To access the SSUP Portal for Aadhar Card Online updation, your mobile number has to be registered in Aadhar.

Biometric details can be done only offline and have to be updated every 10 years for persons whose Aadhar enrolment has been done after the age of 15 years. If the Aadhar enrolment is done before the age of 5 years, then a de-duplication of the Aadhar Card with biometric details updation has to be done on completion of 5 years. Thereafter the biometric details have to be updated on completion of 15 years.

How to change address in Aadhar card

Change of Aadhar Card Address Online can be done by visiting the SSUP Portal. You will have to follow the procedure given below for the correction.

  • Access the SSUP Portal and click on the login button.
  • Enter the 12-digit Aadhar Number. Enter the Captcha and tap on the ‘Sent OTP’ option
  • OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered during Aadhar enrolment.
  • Enter the OTP.
  • Under the Services option, click on the Update Aadhar Online option.
  • Further click on the ‘Proceed to Update Aadhar’ option
  • Choose the ‘Adress Change’ option and click on the ‘Proceed to Update Aadhar’ Option
  • The existing address will appear on the screen.
  • Enter the details of the changed address and upload the supporting documents.

How to Update Phone Number in Aadhaar Card?

To update the phone number In Aadhar Card, you will have to necessarily visit the Aadhar Seva Kendra or the Permanent Enrolment Centre. You will have to submit a completed application form prescribed for corrections in the Aadhar Card along with self-attested copies of supporting documents.

The updation of the mobile number of the resident in the Aadhar database can be done at any mobile outlet during the process of SIM issuance.

  • Rearrangement of the sequence of first Name, Middle Name and Last Name.

The necessity for updation of date of birth arises only when there was an error during enrolment. The date of birth can be easily updated online by visiting the SSUP Portal.

  • Login to the SSUP Portal

  • Enter the OTP for verification.
