Nowadays, all banks are offering multiple internet services to their customers, like net banking, phone banking, online account opening, and other facilities. These services make money transactions more convenient and easily manageable. However, to avail of these services, one must register their mobile number with their bank.

Make sure that your registered mobile number is linked and updated with your bank branch so that you can enjoy uninterrupted banking services. Here, in this article, we will discuss how to register or change your mobile number in your bank account.

Different methods to link your mobile number to a bank account:

Through internet & mobile banking

If you have access to the internet banking facility of your bank, the easiest way for you to link your mobile number to your bank account online is via your internet banking account. The steps to do so are mentioned below:

  • Log in to your net banking account using your username and password.
  • Then go to the ‘My Account’ or ‘My Profile’ tab.
  • Under that tab, you will find the ‘contact number’ tab. If you have more than one account with the same bank, choose the appropriate account for which you want to link the mobile number.
  • Once you select the preferred account, you will be prompted to finish an additional layer of authentication through a password/ PIN to link a mobile number to your account. This step may differ from one bank to another.
  • You will now be redirected to a new tab to add a mobile number or change/update your existing phone number.
  • Choose the desired option and enter your mobile number.
  • The two numbers must match to proceed.
  • The system may prompt you to confirm your new number in a separate tab too at this point.
  • Click on the ‘Submit Request’ tab.
  • The bank will send you a One-Time Password (OTP) to the number provided in the above step.
  • Enter this OTP and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  • The bank will link your number to your bank account within 1-2 days.

The same steps can be followed in the mobile banking app of your bank to link your number to your bank account.

Through the bank ATM

Another way to link a mobile number with a bank account is via your bank’s ATM. This process is easy and takes only a couple of minutes. Just follow the steps given below:

  • Visit your nearby ATM kiosk of the bank with which you have an account.
  • Insert your ATM or debit card into the ATM machine and enter the PIN on being prompted.
  • Now, go to the main menu and choose the ‘Register Mobile Number’ option.
  • Enter your 10-digit mobile number using the ATM keypad.
  • You will receive an OTP, which has to be entered with the help of the keyboard.
  • Now, click on the ‘confirm’ button to complete the process.

Like with internet banking, your bank will establish the mobile number link to your bank account within 1-2 days and will also send you a confirmation notification on the completion of the process.

How to update/ change a mobile number linked to a bank account?

Here’s how to change your existing mobile number linked to your bank account:

Via the internet & mobile banking

The process to update the mobile number is almost similar to the one linking your account. The only difference is that you need to choose the option of ‘update/change’ instead of the ‘link mobile number’. You have to enter your current mobile number in the designated tab and confirm the same by re-entering the number as prompted by the system. You will get an OTP on that number, which you have to enter into the system and confirm. The bank will then update and link the new mobile number to your bank account within a few hours. You will be notified of the change through message and/or email.

Via ATM

You can also go to the nearest ATM kiosk of your bank to update your mobile number. You will need your currently linked mobile number as well as the new number you want to update while making the change. The process remains the same broadly, except you have to choose the ‘update mobile number’ option, after which the system prompts you to provide your existing mobile number and sends an OTP on the same, which has to be entered in the designated tab. Once you enter the OTP, you will be required to enter the new mobile number, and an OTP will be shared on it, which has to be entered. The bank will then make the change and inform you via an SMS notification.
