UAN Activation/Registration Online

  • UAN is a unique 12-digit number which is allotted to every Employee Provident Fund (EPF) member for their EPF account.
  • Employee’s UAN must be registered to access any PF related services online.
  • Employees will need some details for UAN number activation, such as UAN Number, Member ID, PAN, or Aadhaar Number.
  • Employers will be required to submit some documents for UAN registration of the employees, such as updated PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, identity proof, bank account details,address proof, and ESIC Card.

Generate UAN Number

UAN is generated by the EPFO for each PF account holder and is made available to employers through the Online Transfer Claim Portal (OTCP). When an employee joins a company in the service sector for the first time, their employer has to get the UAN number generated for them if the company employs 20 or more employees. If a UAN has been assigned to the employee by their previous employer, they have to furnish the details of the same to the new employer. To generate a new UAN for the employee, the employer has to follow the steps as mentioned below:

  • Opt for UAN activation login by visiting the Employer Portal of EPF with the Establishment ID and password.
  • Click the “Register Individual” option given in the “Member” section.
  • Enter the details of the employee such as PAN Number, Aadhaar Number, bank details, and so on.
  • Approve details in the “Approval” section.
  • EPFO will create UAN number and the employer can link the employee’s PF account with the UAN of the employee.

Process of UAN Activation

Before you avail any online service related to EPF from the EPF member portal, you will have to complete the UAN activation process because you cannot avail of any online facility offered by EPFO without EPFO UAN activation. Below are the steps to be followed if you want to activate:

  • Visit EPF Member Portal & click on the “Activate UAN” tab or UAN activation link.
  • Enter your UAN Number or Member ID, Aadhaar Number, name, date of birth, mobile number, captcha code. 
  • Click on the “Get Authorization PIN“.
  • Enter the authorization PIN you will receive on your mobile number registered with EPFO.
  • Click on the “Validate OTP and Activate UAN” option for UAN registration online.
  • Your UAN will be activated & the password will be shared on your mobile number.
  • You can login to your EPF account now using your UAN and password.

How to Link Aadhaar with UAN?

Since Diwali eve 2017, you can link your Aadhaar number with your UAN via the EPFO website, i.e. epfindia.gov.in. The steps to do the same are as follows:

  • Visit the EPFO website and go to the ‘eKYC Portal’ under ‘Online Services’ tab.
  • Click on the 'Link UAN Aadhaar' option and enter your UAN to proceed further. 
  • An OTP will be sent to your mobile number registered with UAN. Enter it at the appropriate space.
  • After OTP verification, enter your Aadhaar Number.
  • You will get another OTP on your mobile/email linked with your Aadhaar.
  • Once this OTP is verified and the UAN details match with your Aadhaar details, your UAN and Aadhaar get linked.
