One can use any of the four available channels to get the SBI credit card blocked. The credit card is lost or stolen will be blocked permanently. A new credit card will be issued instead upon reissue request.

  • Log into the bank's official credit card website www.sbicard.com
  • Log into your net banking account using your login ID and password.

No, blocking an SBI credit card does not lead to the closure of the credit card account. The balance outstanding on the credit card before the request for lost/stolen is submitted to be repaid on the scheduled due date to avoid late payment charges and penal interest thereon.

SBI credit cards can be blocked/deactivated due to the following reasons:

  1. Over-utilisation of the credit limit
  2. First payment default

  4. More than six consecutive payments in default will lead to permanent withdrawal of the credit facility.
  5. Suspicious activity – loss, theft, fraudulent transactions
  6. Non-compliance with KYC

In case you do not want the credit facility available on your SBI credit card anymore, you can place a block credit card request. Ensure that you have no outstanding dues on the credit card. If a reactivation request is not received within three months of card blocking, the SBI credit card is blocked permanently. However, you can apply for a new credit card subsequently as needed.

In case a credit card is blocked for suspicious activity like loss, theft or fraudulent transactions, it will not affect your CIBIL score.  

However, if the SBI credit card is blocked due to reasons like over-utilisation of credit limit, first payment default, or subsequent payment default, it will definitely affect your credit score.
