All You Need to Know About a SBI Credit Limit Enhancement & Upgrade

Most of us who own a Credit Card know that the card comes with a credit limit. In simpler terms, you are eligible to use the Credit Card only for a certain limit. So if you are credit limit is say, Rs. 6 Lakhs, you cannot purchase something that is worth more than that. However, what do you do if you want to increase this credit limit? This article will help you understand all about increasing your credit limit, especially if you own SBI Credit Cards. Read on.

SBI Credit Limit Enhancement:

The banks are very responsible when it comes to granting you a credit limit. So the Credit Card limit that is calculated and given to you is based on your income and your credit score. However, sometimes you may feel that you need to increase this credit limit. This is how you can do it for SBI Credit Cards:

Pre-approved Credit Limit Offer (Needs No Documentation):

Many banks review their internal risk policies based on a number of factors. Sometimes if you are lucky enough, you may be identified as a cardholder who can be given a pre-approved Credit Card limit increase. In this case, the selected customer will be notified through their registered mobile number and will also receive an email. They will also receive the information in their monthly statement. If the cardholder is interested in increasing this credit limit, they do not need to submit any documentation and need to simply follow these few steps to get their limit increased:

On the website:

Navigate to the offers or benefits tab after logging in and check for the credit card increase offer and click submit.

SMS:

Customers will need to SMS INCR XXXX (where XXXX represents the last four digits of their credit card) to 5676791 from their registered mobile number.

  • Helpline number:

Customers can also call the helpline number for the same information. The helpline numbers are – 1860 180 1290 or 39 02 02 02 (prefix STD code).

Increasing Credit Card Limit with Income Documentation:

For those customers who haven’t received any offer from the bank for the pre-approved credit limit offer, don’t be disheartened. If you submit the income documentation, you can still be eligible for the credit limit increase.

In order to increase this limit, customers will need to call the helpline number and check with the customer care executive and find out the eligibility for a credit limit increase basis income documents. The helpline numbers are – 1860 180 1290 or 39 02 02 02 (prefix STD code).

The customer care executive will ask you to submit the following documents:

  • ITR VI
  • Form 16
  • Salary slip from the last two months

All these documents in their soft copy formats should be submitted online on the SBI site or you can also mail these documents to – Correspondence Department, DLF Infinity Towers, Tower C, 10-12 Floor, Block 2, Building 3, DLF Cyber City, Gurgaon – 122002.

If the bank feels that based on your income documentation, your Credit Card limit can be increased, you will be notified via the proper channels in due course of time.

Enhancing and Upgrading Your Card:

There are several SBI Credit Cards available and you can check the various benefits of these cards before upgrading or downgrading them. Upgrading a Credit Card also means that the charges you typically pay for the cards will change. Here are some points you should keep in mind after you have upgraded your card:

Upgradation charges are different for each card and your annual fee will change. This change will be communicated to you through your monthly statement and will be exclusive of the GST charges. The GST charges will be calculated on top of the annual fee.

Your annual gift for the upgradation will only be valid after your annual fee has been paid and realised.

Your credit limit will not increase if you upgrade to another card and this credit limit increase will be decided by the bank.

  • The reward points in your previous card will be duly transferred to the new card.

Sometimes, the bank decides based on your credit behaviour whether you can get an upgrade. This upgrade can be due to the customer’s performance and the credit score.

  • You cannot upgrade your card for 6 months after the downgrade or upgrade from your earlier card.

The Credit Card is meant to be used only for domestic transactions. In case you want to use it outside the country, you will need to talk to the bank and consent for international use.
